Wednesday the Raven

This project is an experiment in editing and publishing in which we serialized the completion of a children’s novel called Wednesday the Raven. For thirty-odd weeks, we released and reviewed a chapter per week from the manuscript, published the texts through a public Github repository, and invited the public to participate in the process of bringing this work to its final form.

The initial phase of the project took about six months (thirty weeks for chapter releases plus a little wiggle room for improvisation), and will end with the publication of the book. In the meantime, the book is free to read online as it enters its final phase.

The text uses ET Book, an MIT-licensed version of Bembo created by Edward Tufte and his associates that contains such typographical niceties as the asterism – the three asterisks placed in a triangle (⁂).

The text is produced using Markdown-formatted pages saved via the word processor Ulysses to a Github repository. The Markdown pages are converted and published using Github Pages and the static site generator Jekyll.
